The KPU Creative Writing Department offers students a community of creativity in which writers discover a purposeful craft and explore the gifts of the imagination. We offer award-winning faculty, small class sizes, and a rigorous approach to the discipline of writing. The department is known for a strong sense of community which supports writers to discover their voice and develop their craft. Learning in the Creative Writing Department is based on foundational principles of mentorship, discovery, purposefulness, and learner autonomy. Faculty demonstrate an authentic spirit of inquiry intended as a model for learners. In turn, learners engage with a teaching environment that is collaborative, creative, and respectful. We embrace emerging and experimental teaching methods in support of a dynamic educational community that is innovative, interdisciplinary, and socially and culturally responsible. In the Creative Writing Department, learner engagement extends beyond the classroom to encompass learning from community and industry partners and peers. Creative Writing provides an excellent foundation in communication skills as well as the development of divergent and creative thinking abilities. Graduates with these skills are highly sought in today's dynamic workplace. Courses are offered in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, and new media, as well as specific genres such as young adult literature, spoken word, and speculative fiction.

The BA in Creative Writing is also an ideal forum if students wish to stay current with innovative literary new mediums and technologies. With the tangible benefits provided by the program, graduates find themselves well prepared for a variety of career choices as well as those traditionally associated with creative writing such as: Literary Creation, Publishing, Editing, Communications, New Media, Film, TV and Gaming, Marketing, Publicity, Education, Author (Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry), Screenwriter or Scriptwriter, Technical Writer, Copywriter or Content Writer, Ghostwriter or Speechwriter, Editor or Proofreader,Literary Agent Assistant, Publishing Assistant.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principal language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  
1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
