The Associate Degree in Philosophy is designed to foster the development of general critical reasoning and writing skills. Students pursuing the Associate Degree will experience a learning environment that is supportive and challenging. They will receive a solid introduction to the critical reasoning, writing, and problem-solving skills required for successful careers in any area. Philosophy is the study of questions that arise from our reflection on ourselves and our place in the natural world. It is also a practice that teaches self-reflection and critical inquiry. The philosophy department at KPU offers a full range of courses taught by experienced philosophers with backgrounds from universities across Canada and around the world. Philosophy is typically done in a setting with others. Doing philosophy with others allows you to sort beliefs, rank values, articulate what is essential and eliminate nonsense. Students enjoy the benefit of small classes, with instructors and an institution committed to teaching. Is there a god? Are our minds separate from our bodies? How much can we ever really know?
